Moving our Products to a New PC
Keowee Product Suite v4:
Copy the installation folder, all subfolders, and all folder contents to the new PC. This is the only action required.
All products and versions except the Keowee Product Suite v4:
The architecture of Windows creates a substantial barrier against moving user files and settings to a new PC. But, though not a trivial task, your files and settings can be re-gained. Here is how.
First, you must re-install the product(s) on the new machine. You cannot simply copy files or folders! With FontMagic/400, ProSign/400, and Shop-Com/400, re-installation is all you have to do. No user files or settings are present on the PC.
For FORMagic/400 and FORMagic/400 PDF, after the installation, copy these files from the original folder to the new folder. Note that both of these products share a common installation, so you do not have to do this separately for each product.
- overlays.cdx
- overlays.dbf
- pdfparm.cdx
- pdfparm.dbf
- *.hpi, *.hpo, *.hps
- fmpd00id.txt
Some of these files may not be present on your PC. Note that the "hp" files, once uploaded to the AS/400, are generally not used by FORMagic/400 on the PC so you may be able to safely ignore them.
The above files also transfer any installed product keys. However, please remember these are copyrighted products; you are limited to installation on one PC unless you have purchased additional copies.
Don't you wish Microsoft would learn from the twenty-five years of highly favorable user experiences with the IBM AS/400 and make it easier to move installed software to a new computer?
